The 911 Turbo S occupies a strange spot in the supercar world: it will outrun cars twice its price in a 0-60 sprint, yet it's also the exotic rental people request for a rainy commute.

Why renters keep coming back

Unlike a mid-engine supercar, the 911's rear-engine layout and standard all-wheel drive make it forgiving in wet or cold conditions. Front trunk space also means you can actually run errands in it.

On the road

Turbo lag is a non-issue — power arrives instantly and stays linear all the way to redline. The PDK dual-clutch gearbox shifts quicker than most drivers can react, which is either the whole point or slightly unnerving depending on your taste.

How it compares to the rest of the fleet

Renters who've also driven our Ferrari or McLaren often say the same thing about the Turbo S: it's the only one of the three they'd genuinely consider owning. Where the Italian and British cars ask for commitment — a track day, a closed road, a certain mindset — the 911 just wants to be driven, today, in whatever traffic you actually have.

Interior and everyday usability

This is the rare exotic with rear seats that fit small adults, a proper infotainment system, and door pockets big enough for a water bottle. None of that sounds remarkable until you've spent a day in something with none of it.

What renting sidesteps

A Turbo S owner budgets for ceramic composite brake replacement, staggered tire wear from all that torque going down, and depreciation that outpaces almost anything else in this class. None of that shows up on a rental invoice — you get the launch control and the all-wheel-drive grip without ever opening a service estimate, which is a meaningful part of why this is the car renters come back to season after season rather than eventually buying one.

Booking tips

  • License requirements: most rental partners ask for at least 2 years of driving history for the Turbo S tier.

  • Best routes: coastal highways reward the chassis more than tight city grids.

  • Duration: a 24-hour rental is enough to appreciate it; multi-day rentals suit road trips better.

  • Weather: this is one of the few cars in the fleet we'd actually recommend booking for a rainy forecast.

If you only rent one 'supercar' this year, the 911 Turbo S is the one that won't leave you white-knuckled the entire time — and the one you'll most plausibly wish you could keep.
